A voice within,
asked a simple question.
Who are you?
It exclaimed to me.
Who am I?
I questioned why.
Well, who are you!?
It did protest.
I’m me.
I said fervently.
That’s impossible
It can’t be.
I disagree, I’m me.
You’re an imposter!
Imginary.
Though I must admit,
I’m a bit confused,
perhaps even bemused.
Perplexed over the complex,
identity crisis there seems to be.
Cause I don’t understand who is who –
Am I me, or me you?
Almost in jest,
I confess,
When concepts breakdown,
I see no duality between us.
Though sometimes what does arise,
when playing roles I despise,
I become just an aggregation,
a dimwitted culmination,
of what other people think I should be,
as I slowly become a split personality.
It’s almost like a powered on automaton,
doing things to my best ability,
within a character’s programmed capacity.
Caring too much what other’s say,
is always the safe way,
to fall into conformity,
a domesticated calamity.
There are secrets well kept,
that my fearful mind protects.
Under emotions sullen and corrupt,
the divisions erupt.
Staring out my overton window by the sea,
the view will be limited to some degree.
The blind spots I ignore,
pretend they are just a bore.
Something to look past,
so I can get somewhere fast.
While dreaming of the sea,
and distant fantasies,
I behave obediently,
through all these little identities.
fulfilling what I think people’s projections want to see,
like some animated dummy.
